Academy Snowboards 2013 Collection

Bros from Academy Snowboard Co. took time to presents their awesome line for 2013. This is Academy Snowboard 2013 collection!!! You need to see this…
What is different for 2013? New ideas, new materials, new technology?
- We softened up the Team ‘Bro Model’ board to give it more of a freestyle/freeride feel. We also introduced the cost effective reverse camber Icon series into the mix to give our customers more choice in reverse camber options.
Any new models in 2013 collection?
- The wood core Icon series was developed to be a reverse camber board that’s super playful on the mountain and park. Our team tested it and loved how it rode last season, so now we’re offering it to the public so they can take advantage of another great reverse camber alternative in our line!
What is the most excited thing/model in upcoming collection? Why?
- The Propaganda continues to draw a lot of attention from riders that demand a soft park board that’s great for jibbing and keeps its pop over time. The Team ‘Bro Model’ board was designed again this year by Jordan and Jonas Michilot and their graphic styling has been really embraced by our audience. Kids and retailers come up to us constantly saying the ‘Bro Model’ is their favorite looking board of all time.
Is your 2013 line more freeride or freestyle oriented?
- The 2013 line is more freestyle oriented, using flexes and shapes that allow riders enough forgiveness to handle the skate-oriented moves that are blowing up on the scene, and enough response and durability to keep riders on point all season!
Rocker vs. camber? Many people are wondering what is better, what to choose. Do you have any explanation perhaps?
- To each their own. There’s a pop and stability benefit of traditional camber, and a forgiveness and feel benefit of reverse camber. We incorporate different cores and shapes throughout our product line to give riders choices in flex, shape, and comfort between regular and reverse camber boards. But, it the end, it’s personal preference and it’s all what feels best under your feet.
Most of brands are making some hybrids between rockers and cambers. Will you have something like this for 2013?
- We’ve monitored the trends into hybrid rocker-camber construction and haven’t jumped at that gimmick yet. We may reconsider if people start winning halfpipe and slopestyle contests on hybrid boards, but that also hasn’t happened yet. For now, we want to continue to focus on the individual strengths of camber and rocker boards and pursuing technologies that have created the best riding boards on the market.
Any new core materials? Going lighter? Going stronger?
- We continue to expand our WDT cores used in our Serenity and Propaganda boards as a lightweight and eco-friendly alternative. They’ve been tested and proven over the last 4 years and we’re stoked by the response we’ve received from consumers!
Will we go faster in 2013? Any new technologies with base?
- We continue to incorporate a super fast sintered base on our Team ‘Bro Model’. It gets our kids jumping building-to-building for sure!
Any new solutions for better grip? Like new ‘anti ice edges’?
- Our boards come with razor sharp edges out of Austrian factory, and we make sure to tell kids to file them down a bit so they don’t cut through their mittens when the do their first indy grab. We’ve never had any complaints about our edges not gripping hard enough.
Last year lots of brands started producing splitboards. Any special reasons? Will there be a splitboard in your 2013 collection?
- Splitboarding is a new and exciting aspect of snowboarding that gained a lot of attention in the last couple years. Going on adventures is cool and fun, and splitboarding helps people explore and we totally get and respect that. But, our focus is on making the best freestyle snowboards on the market so we’ll continue to pursue technology and materials that help innovate the freestyle aspect.
Eco friendly is always present when people are talking about snowboarding. Any eco friendly boards in 2013 collection? What is the difference between eco friendly board and a normal one?
- The Serenity and Propaganda use a WDT core, a technology engineered in Germany, to incorporate a synthetic-wood blend for the core. It’s eco-friendly because it uses less wood material to make a core. Unfortunately, it’s very difficult to make a ‘truly’ totally green board, but at least there are steps being made in the right directions.
What makes you different from other brands?
- We’re rider owned, rider operated, and truly believe in building the snowboard culture and giving back to its participants. We’ve started programs like the Foundation Scholarship, Ca$h for Kids contest series, Camp Academy, and Fundraisers for local high school snowboard teams to put our money where our mouth is and give back to riders that are making a difference in their local community. Good People, Great Snowboard is the new mantra.
Can you sum up your 2013 Board collection in one sentence please.
Inspired by Art, Expression, and Experience to be the best looking and best riding freestyle snowboards on the market.
